Bad luck in biathlon, good luck in love

Last week Tiril Eckhoff had a little shock, when her Instagram account was briefly hacked . However, the world-class biathlete is now back in possession of her social media account, which is incredibly important for athletes these days - especially to give fans insights into life. Eckhoff internalized this to perfection on Monday evening: She announced via Instagram that she was engaged to her long-time boyfriend Ånund Lid Byggland!

The 31-year-old posted a video in which she holds the engagement ring into the camera with a loving smile in a picturesque snowfall. “I got the best present at home,” writes the biathlete. Numerous industry colleagues congratulated the Norwegian on her special “victory”, including Dorothea Wierer. Eckhoff and the former cross-country skier only celebrated their tenth anniversary in September, and now they will say yes.

The saying “bad luck in games, good luck in love” applies surprisingly well to Tiril Eckhoff. From a sporting perspective, the biathlon queen is puzzling the experts. Last season she was the celebrated overall World Cup winner, but this year nothing is working out. In the overall ranking, the Norwegian is in 27th place, a 6th place is her only top 10 result this winter. Eckhoff skipped the World Cup in Oberhof for health reasons.
