4th place: “Doro” misses the podium in the pursuit

The victory went to Slovakian Anastasiya Kuzmina, followed by Kaisa Makarainen (Finland) and Daria Domracheva (Belarus).

Exciting four-way fight

After Friday's sprint race, Domracheva, the wife of the great Ole-Einar Björndalen, started the pursuit race 22 seconds ahead of Kuzmina, 30,6 seconds ahead of Wierer and 49,5 seconds ahead of Mäkäräinen. And it turned out to be an extremely exciting race.

In the first prone stage, Domracheva and Kuzmina were able to hold their positions (despite shooting errors), while the Norwegians Fenne and Tandrevold and the German Hildebrand passed Wierer because the Puster woman had missed a target.

The leading duo was also confirmed in the second shooting, while “Doro” Wierer, who made no mistakes this time, made up one place and left the stadium in fifth place, just behind Mäkäräinen and the Ukrainian Semerenko.

The first standing stage brought the lead change: because Domracheva made a mistake, Kuzmina passed her. And since Mäkäräinen and Wierer also made no mistakes, the battle for second and third place became really exciting again.

Last shot prevents 2nd podium

The final shooting was tough: Kuzmina and Domracheva had no faults, while Mäkäräinen had to go into the penalty loop once. This was Wierer's chance for his second podium finish in a row. But the very last shot missed and Wierer also had to go into the extra round.

On the last cross-country skiing route, Kuzmina confidently brought home her victory, while there was a change of position between Mäkäräinen and Domracheva in 2nd and 3rd place. Wierer, on the other hand, came in a good fourth and was able to keep the Norwegian Olsbu at a distance.

The other “Azzurre” at the start fell slightly short of expectations: Lisa Vittozzi fell from 3th to 14th place with three shooting errors, while Federica Sanfilippo from Ridnaun missed five times and fell from 19th to 30th final place.

Two seasons on Sunday

There are still two relay competitions in Hochfilzen on Sunday, although it is currently unclear whether Italy's women will be able to send a quartet to the start, as Alexia Runggaldier had to take a break on Friday due to illness.
