Prize money: This is how much money is waiting for the biathlon stars

A few days ago the International Biathlon Federation (IBU) published the prize money lists. For an individual victory, both men and women receive 15.000 euros (gross, of course), second place brings 12.000 euros, third place 9.000 euros. For 15th place, the biathletes still receive 500 euros.

In the four-person relay competition, the first six teams receive prize money. The winning relay team receives 24.000 euros (i.e. 6.000 for each athlete), the second-place quartet receives 18.000 euros (4.500 for each), while the third-place team receives 14.000 euros (3.500 each).

Money, money and more money There is also extra money for the final placings in the overall World Cup (28.000 euros for the winner, 23.000 euros for the second place, 18.000 euros for the third place, and 6.000 euros for the tenth place). The winners of the small crystal balls (sprint, pursuit, etc.) can also look forward to 10.000 euros each. In addition, there is 850 euros in prize money per race for the biathlon star in the red jersey (leader in the discipline ranking) and 1.000 euros for the athlete in the yellow jersey (leader in the overall ranking).

The ruble rolls at the World Cup A total of 5.076.200 euros in prize money will be distributed in the Biathlon World Cup. Added to this is the World Championships in Östersund this year. The winner of an individual race receives 25.000 euros, and a relay win receives 28.000 euros (7.000 euros per athlete). A total of 1.172.000 euros will go to the athletes.

Skiing is more lucrative Back to the World Cup: Here the prize money has been increased compared to the previous year, so as mentioned, an individual victory is now worth 15.000 euros, whereas last year you were paid 13.000 euros for the same achievement. Compared to Alpine skiing, the supreme discipline of winter sports, these are still small sums: skiers receive an average of 39.575 euros for a victory. Whoever wins on the Streif in Kitzbühel can even look forward to 74.190 euros.

Last year, Martin Fourcade was the top earner among the biathlon stars with 251.500 euros. In the women's field, Anastasiya Kuzmina led this special ranking with 136.000 euros. From a South Tyrolean perspective, Dorothea Wierer was the coal queen last year: she was credited with around 80.000 euros.
