Premiere victory: A Czech surprises in Antholz

The one mistake in the standing shooting was too many: both Dorothea Wierer and Lisa Vittozzi had to go into the penalty loop once and paid dearly for the 150 extra meters. While Wierer missed the podium by twelve seconds at the finish, Vittozzi missed the top three by seven seconds. Lisa Theresa Hauser left a possible podium place in the cross-country ski trail. The North Tyrolean did not make any shooting errors, but was only 25th fastest when running. That made her 9th place overall, the 10-year-old's second top 25 place this season. Gontier strong on the trails In addition to Wierer and Vittozzi, two other “Azzurre” were at the start in Antholz. Nicol Gontier, who meticulously worked on her shooting problems in training, made one mistake in both prone and standing shooting and finished the competition in 18th place. The ninth-best running time shows the potential that lies dormant in the Aostan native. Federica Sanfilippo from Ridnaun will also be part of the pursuit on Saturday. As 53rd in the sprint, she narrowly qualified for the top 60 who are allowed to compete in the pursuit.

Alexia Runggaldier is not at the start in Antholz. The woman from Val Gardena is in a slump in form and was not nominated for her home World Cup. Instead, she should offer herself in training for the next few weeks.

The men's sprint competition continues in Antholz on Friday. Two South Tyroleans, Lukas Hofer and Dominik Windisch, are also there. Marketa Davidova duped all the favorites in the sprint. With a flawless performance, the Czech won the start of the World Cup weekend in Antholz in a truly heart-stopping finale. The “Azzurre” narrowly missed the podium.
