Only the Finnish top favorite was better: At the Biathlon Sprint World Cup over 7,5 kilometers on Saturday in Pokljuka, Slovenia, Dorothea Wierer showed a very strong performance and came in second behind Kaisa Mäkäräinen.

The race became an exciting duel between the Finn and Wierer, in which the South Tyrolean ultimately lost out. But first things first: Wierer showed an impeccable performance lying down in the first shooting and took the lead. Even in the second shooting, the 28-year-old from Niederrasen shot five times in around 20 seconds, making her the fastest shooter ever and leaving the shooting range as the leader.

On the final lap after about 6 kilometers, Wierer fell back a little, Mäkäräinen was once again too strong. On the last lap, Wierer lost almost 17 seconds and finished second, 14,80 seconds behind the Finn.

Third place went to the French Justine Braisaz (+3), her compatriot Julia Simon narrowly missed the podium (+42,10).

Lisa Vittozzi from Belluno was also on course for a podium for a long time, but ultimately had to settle for fifth place (+46,90). Wierer overall leader For Wierer it was the 22nd podium finish in an individual race, and the sixth in a sprint. If you include the relay results, the 28-year-old has already made it to the podium 35 times.
