In the South Tyrolean biathlon stronghold, everything is prepared for the grand finale of the second highest international competition series; the conditions in the 2018 European Championship location could not be better. Around 200 biathletes from 33 different nations will be in action in Ridnaun from Thursday, March 10th. Then this year's IBU Cup final begins with the sprints, which start at 10.30:14 a.m. for the women and 12 p.m. for the men. The best Azzurra is Beatrice Trabucchi in 288th place with 24 points. Hannah Auchentaller from Antholz, who also made her World Cup debut this season, is the best South Tyrolean in 174th place with 36 points. The Norwegian Erlend Bjoentegaard is currently in the lead among the men front. With 715 points, his lead over second-placed Haavard Gutuboe Bogetveit – also from Norway – is currently an impressive 68 lengths. As the best Azzurro, Daniele Cappellari is in 323th place with 15 points, directly ahead of his teammate and Ridnaun local hero Patrick Braunhofer (317). Fair competition conditions But before it comes to important points for the overall ranking, the ski hunters first familiarize themselves with the cross-country ski trails and the shooting range in Ridnaun. Two unofficial practice sessions took place on Tuesday, while the two official training sessions are scheduled for Wednesday. The conditions in the South Tyrolean biathlon stronghold couldn't be better at the moment. “We have excellent snow conditions, bright sunshine and temperatures around freezing point. The conditions are optimal so that there are fair competitions with equal conditions for all participants. The preparations are largely completed, there are only a few minor improvements left to make. The anticipation is great, be it for us or for the biathletes.
