Return to the podium: Wierer shines in Nove Mesto

Wierer made it clear from the start that the... botched pursuit competition on Sunday was just a blip. The 30-year-old remained flawless during the sprint on Friday at the shooting range and was also in strong condition on the cross-country ski trail. With this flawless performance, the South Tyrolean ended up in third place. This is Wierer's fourth podium finish this winter. The last time she stood on the podium was almost 3 months ago in Oberhof, when she came second in the sprint. Eckhoff not to bend The victory once again went to the overall World Cup leader Tiril Eckhoff. The Norwegian had to spin once in the penalty loop due to a mistake in the standing stage. However, due to her running strength, Eckhoff was able to compensate for the extra meters and celebrated her 6th sprint victory of the season. Second place went to the German Denise Herrmann, who narrowly had the upper hand over Wierer thanks to her strong final lap.

Third-placed Wierer was more than satisfied after the race: “It was important to get a zero at the shooting range because the competition on the cross-country ski trail is simply extremely strong. After missing the podium by a second a week ago, I’m even happier now.”

The two-time overall World Cup winner currently feels in good shape: “I am in better shape than at the beginning of the season. I had to fight back after being pretty tired at the start of winter. Ultimately, it hasn't been a bad season so far. I’m now looking forward to the final races.” Vittozzi makes a mistake when shooting prone However, things didn't go as well for Lisa Vittozzi. The Italian missed 3 targets in the prone shooting and thus left the race for the top places early. Even though she made no mistakes afterwards, Vittozzi had to settle for 28th place in the end. Federica Sanfilippo and Irene Lardschneider didn't get past places 87 and 92.
