Difficult conditions for young biathlon enthusiasts

The conditions in central Slovakia couldn't be more difficult. High temperatures, rain and wind make the routes a deep course where you often sink. But the IBU representatives are in good spirits, the organizers have experience and have plenty of snow reserves, so nothing seems to stand in the way of the first start on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

There are also three South Tyroleans in Italy's squad, all of whom belong to the youth class. For Peter Tumler from Martell it is the second Junior World Championships (last year he also won relay bronze in Romania), Patrick Braunhofer from Ridnaun and Irene Lardschneider from Wolkenstein are World Cup newcomers. Today is the longest competition for them, in which every mistake is “acknowledged” with a time penalty (45 seconds for young people). The routes themselves are very undulating and strenuous, with some very “toxic” climbs that demand everything from the young biathletes.

A total of 36 nations are registered in Osrblie. 28 competitions will be held until February 16th, in each category of individual, sprint, pursuit and relay. Last year the boys were particularly successful for Italy in Romania, winning three medals there. Will the team around Alexander Inderst, Michela Ponza and Samantha Plafoni be able to do that again this time?
