Sensational: Lukas Hofer second in Khanty Mansiysk

Lukas Hofer, who showed no nerves on the shooting range this time and remained flawless, was only beaten by overall World Cup winner Martin Fourcade. The Frenchman, who celebrated his ninth win of the season (17 podiums), crossed the finish line in 24.22,6:39,6 minutes, making him 43,8 seconds faster than Hofer. Third place went to the German Andreas Birnbacher, who also hit all ten targets and lost XNUMX seconds to Fourcace.

Lukas Hofer was finally able to convert his excellent form into a top result. In the last competitions, the Pusterer had often scratched the podium, but mostly got nervous at the last shooting. For South Tyrol's model biathletes, it was not only the first podium this winter, but also his best World Cup result ever. To date, the 23-year-old Montaler had come third in the mass start at the 2011 World Championships. This race also took place in Khanty Mansiysk.

The other “Azzurri” ended up at the bottom of the rankings. Christian De Lorenzi finished in 44th place, Pietro Dutto took 51st place and speedster Dominik Windisch didn't get past 79th place with five missed shots.

The World Cup in Khanty Mansiysk continues on Saturday with the women's and men's pursuit races, for which Lukas Hofer has created an almost ideal starting situation.
