Victory & Baby: The most romantic story in the biathlon circus

On February 17, 2019, the French mixed relay team won a World Cup race in Soldier Hollow, USA. At first glance, nothing special, but upon closer inspection it is: The French quartet also included Simon Desthieux (29) and Celia Aymonier (29), who have been a couple outside the cross-country ski trail for several years. Winning a World Cup race with your partner – not many people can say that. Now Desthieux and Aymonier have celebrated an even greater success.

As the two Frenchmen announced on social media that they had become parents. “When life takes on another dimension,” they wrote in unison on their profiles. There is also a photo that shows Simon Desthieux with the newborn baby. Numerous biathlon colleagues expressed their congratulations under the post. Numerous successes in the biathlon circus Desthieux and Aymonier are a biathlon dream couple in the truest sense of the word. He has been among the world's best for years, won Olympic gold in 2018 with the mixed relay, was crowned world champion in the men's relay in Antholz in 2020 and also took home a World Championship silver medal and two World Cup victories (all last season).

She, on the other hand, triumphed in a total of three World Cup relay races, also won World Cup bronze in the relay in 2017 and also has numerous top 10 places to her name. A year ago she unexpectedly said goodbye to the biathlon stage at the age of just 28. In her related statement, Aymonier cited changing external conditions due to global warming as one reason.
