Single mixed relay: Wierer/Hofer come out on top

For Wierer and Hofer it was about making amends after the botched pursuit races. For the two South Tyroleans, the races on Saturday were anything but what they wanted.

In the mixed relay, as in the conventional relay, the athletes have three spares at their disposal should the shots not hit the target as desired. On the first lap, Hofer had to use a reloading cartridge for both the prone and standing positions. However, the Montaler presented himself strongly on the cross-country ski trail: he handed over to Wierer, three seconds behind.

Duel with Austria The woman from Niederrasner only made one mistake on her first lap. This put her in the lead of the relay by around ten seconds. Hofer set a very high pace on the second lap, so that his opponents were unable to distance him from Puster, despite two shooting errors. At the last change the gap to Austria was only one second. On the final lap, Wierer and Lisa Theresa Hauser dueled for victory. The 28-year-old impressively demonstrated her outstanding running form (in the pursuit on Saturday, Wierer was second fastest on the cross-country ski trail). She shook off Hauser in an impressive manner and also acted incredibly quickly at the shooting range. Wierer/Hofer ultimately won the race with a lead of over 20 seconds over Austria and France. For the South Tyrolean duo it was their first victory in the World Cup in this discipline.

Single mixed relay: Wierer/Hofer come out on top

Dorothea Wierer and Lukas Hofer lived up to their role as favorites and clearly won the mixed relay in Soldier Hollow on Sunday. Austria came in second ahead of the relay team from France.
