“A start like this is always good” – The voices of the “Azzurri”

The start of the Biathlon World Cup took place on Sunday in Pokljuka, Slovenia. While there was nothing to win in the single mixed relay for the “Azzurre” with Federica Sanfilippo from Ridnaun and Thomas Bormolini (see own report) , the classic mixed relay team performed strongly in the afternoon.

The azure relay team, which had already taken third place at the Olympics in South Korea, also made it onto the podium at the start of the World Cup. Dominik Windisch, Lukas Hofer Dorothea Wierer and Lisa Vittozzi celebrated third place. (click here for the detailed race report)

Lukas Hofer, who secured the podium as the final runner, emphasized: “Starting with a podium finish is always good, now it’s important to build on this strong performance in the individual races.” Hofer took over in 5th place and was able to close the gap to the Russians and Finns in front of him. “At the shooting range I decided to be quick and safe, just like in training. I succeeded. The second round also went well, I had to reload when shooting, but I didn't lose too much time,” said Hofer.

It is a great success for the relay. “We are very happy to be able to take part in this relay discipline at the highest level,” said Wierer. Windisch not in top form Things didn't go as well for Dominik Windisch. He missed three times while shooting prone and also had to reload twice while shooting standing. “I'm sorry for the team, but in the end the rest of the team showed such a strong performance that it was still enough for a podium finish. We can be happy with the result considering we had one penalty. My form is not optimal, but the season is still long, I'm not worried," he said confidently.

Windisch also prepared for other wind conditions: “It was a bit windy before the race, so I prepared for that. When my turn came, however, the wind died down. I didn’t want to make any mistakes, but the shots all went to the right.”

Lisa Vittozzi was also satisfied: “It went well at the shooting range, but I didn’t have the best feeling on the cross-country ski trail. “It’s not necessarily my favorite slope.”
