Summer biathlon in Martell: Hofer and Oberhofer win gold

On the first day the focus was on the sprint races. While Dorothea Wierer, one of the big favorites, prevailed in the women's category, the Veltliner Thomas Bormolini outplayed all competitors in the men's category and won with a narrow lead over Lukas Hofer, while Dominik Windisch was able to take third place. In the women's race, Dorothea Wierer was 5,5 seconds faster than Karin Oberhofer, who had spun once, despite the two penalties. Bronze went to Federica Sanfilippo from Ridnaun.

The new junior Italian champions in the sprint are Lisa Vittozzi and Saverio Zini, in the youth category there was again a South Tyrolean victory by Simon Leitgeb, who narrowly prevailed over Paul Traut and Michael Durand. Among the girls of the same age (born in 1996 and 1997), it was the small, wiry Martina Sirigu from Piedmont who confidently came out on top. The outcome in the race of the contenders (born 1998, 1999 and 2000) was extremely close, where Cedric Christille from the Aosta Valley was able to overtake Martello's local hero Peter Tumler by 0,3 seconds with an incredible finale. The state championship title also went to the Aosta Valley for the youngest participants. This thanks to Samuela Comola.

The pursuit competitions followed on Sunday, which caused some postponements, but overall rewarded the established athletes. In the general class, Lukas Hofer won ahead of Dominik Windisch. In the women's class, Karin Oberhofer turned the tables this time and overtook Dorothea Wierer, while Federica Sanfilippo was able to confirm herself in third place again.

The South Tyrol regional association also celebrated two daily victories in the junior classes. Like the day before, Simon Leitgeb won in the U-19 category, this time Peter Tumler came out on top in the youngest category. Nevertheless, it was worrying that they were able to win the state championship title despite poor shooting performance in these categories.

In the remaining categories, the pursuit successes went to Saverio Zini, Lisa Vittozzi, Martina Sirigu and Samuela Comola, just like the day before.

Summer biathlon in Martell: Hofer and Oberhofer win gold

The Italian biathletes championship took place on South Tyrolean soil for the first time this summer. Martell experienced exciting sprint and pursuit competitions on Saturday and Sunday.
