South Tyrolean youngsters win four championship titles in Martell

The sprint race took place in Martell in light snowfall, and the sun shone brightly during the pursuit the following day. Markus Windisch, who competed with a slight cold, lived up to his role as favorite and won both races. In the sprint he impressed at the shooting range and prevailed over Thomas Bormolini by over a minute. In the pursuit, however, he missed six targets, but still won with a lead of over two minutes over Rudy Zini. Federica Sanfilippo also had no trouble winning both races and thus taking the overall ranking in the Italian Cup. She now hopes to be used in the World Cup next winter.

The Italian championship titles were awarded in Martell in the youth categories. In the juniors, Thierry Chenal won the sprint with just 6,6 seconds ahead of Benjamin Plaickner. In the pursuit, the South Tyrolean took revenge and won gold ahead of the Aosta native. There were also top places for Maikol Demetz from Val Gardena and Andreas Plaickner from Antholz, who narrowly missed out on a medal. Among the girls of the same age, Renee Glarey came out on top twice ahead of Lisa Gasser from Antholz.

Carmen Runggaldier from St. Christina also became double Italian champion in the age group up to 18 years. Ilaria Baritussio from Friuli had to settle for second place twice, while Julia Plaickner and Katharina Leitgeb from Antholz missed the podium. The boys' titles went to Saverio Zini from Livigno (sprint) and Xavier Guidetti (pursuit). Felix Zingerle missed the bronze medal in the sprint by 2 seconds.

The South Tyroleans left a very strong impression on the 16-year-old boys. In the sprint, Paul Traut from Goldrain and Hannes Zingerle from Val Gardena got off the podium with the new Italian champion Luca Ghiglione. In the pursuit, Traut took the title ahead of Zingerle, while 14-year-old Peter Tumler came an excellent fourth. In the girls' category, Irene Lardschneider from Val Gardena won two silver medals, in the sprint behind Michela Carrara and in the pursuit behind Martina Sirigu. Here she was in the lead before the last shooting, but then missed four times.
