Top ten placement with a downer

Lisa Vittozzi from Friuli delivered a strong result with fifth place, while racer Dorothea Wierer scored numerous World Cup points in seventh place. Nevertheless, there could have been more in the sprint race at the Siberian biathlon center - especially for Wierer, who hit the target with her usual confidence, but then lost time on the cross-country ski trail. For comparison: Third-placed Tiril Eckhof had to go into the penalty loop once, but in the end she was around 20 seconds faster than Wierer. It was a similar story for Lisa Vittozzi, who also remained flawless on the shooting range, but ultimately missed out on a podium finish.

Domracheva makes things exciting in the World Cup Four-time Olympic champion Darya Domracheva secured victory in the first women's competition. The 31-year-old Belarusian won after a flawless run, just ahead of Kaisa Mäkäräinen from Finland and the Norwegian Eckhoff. Despite her fifth win of the season, Domracheva missed the small crystal ball in the Sprint World Cup. This was secured by Anastasiya Kuzmina from Slovakia, who finished twelfth.

The fight for the overall World Cup remains exciting before the two final races on Saturday (pursuit 10 km) and Sunday (mass start 12,5 km). Kuzmina, Mäkäräinen and Domracheva still have a chance, but Wierer can only take fourth place from Dahlmeier. The South Tyrolean is currently in fifth place.
