Tora Berger “Queen of Antholz”

“The Queen of Antholz” is what Tora Berger can be called after the races in South Tyrol. After the two victories in Ruhpolding a week ago, she also celebrated a double success in the Südtirol Arena. The Olympic champion in the individual competition won the mass start today with an incredible running performance. She left two targets at the shooting range, but it was still enough for the win. After the last shooting she was 14,3 seconds behind the leader Marie Laure Brunet, and at the finish the completely exhausted Norwegian was 0,6 seconds ahead of the Frenchwoman.

Brunet missed her first World Cup victory in the last kilometer, but was able to console herself with the lead in the discipline cup. The 22-year-old from Macot la Plagne climbed onto the podium for the third time this winter, after second place in Östersund and third place in Pokljuka. Third today was the Belarusian Darya Domracheva, who was the only participant to make no mistakes at the shooting range, but lost too much time on the cross-country ski trail. Domracheva celebrated her fourth podium of the season today. In Antholz she has already been on the podium twice, two years ago in the sprint and in the pursuit.

The Slovakian Anastasiya Kuzmina had to settle for fourth place, Teja Gregorin from Slovenia came a good fifth. The best German in the mass start was Magdalena Neuner. Although she missed three times, she finished sixth. Neuner competed in her first race today in Antholz, the sprint and the relay because she had a cold. Runners from the Italian national team were not at the start.

The Finn Kaisa Mäkäräinen remains in the lead in the overall World Cup rankings. Today she came in 27th place, but was subsequently disqualified because she didn't show up for the ski inspection. Tora Berger, on the other hand, climbed from ninth to seventh place.

The last few meters in this stadium with this fantastic atmosphere were great and I just thought to myself that I absolutely had to be the first to cross the finish line. Now I'm looking forward to the American races and hope that things will go well there too.

Darya Domracheva (BLR) - third place Antholz is a very special place for me, I feel very comfortable here and that's why things are going so well here. I've been on the podium four times this season, but I'm still missing a win. I hope that it will work soon. Today I did a great job at the shooting range, but my skis were very slow. That annoys me.
