Czech biathletes want to boycott the World Cup finals in Russia

Prague (SID) In response to the Russian doping scandal, the Czech biathletes want to stay away from the World Cup finals in Tyumen, Russia (March 22-25). “We are of the opinion that Russia should not host international competitions in the current situation,” Czech association president Jiri Hamza was quoted as saying in the Czech media on Friday: “If you are convinced that something is not going well, you should maintain your stance ." The International Biathlon Union (IBU) confirmed on February 14th that the World Cup final would take place in Tyumen despite all concerns. In the wake of the Russian state doping scandal, the IBU initially left open the possibility of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) hosting the event. The Canadian association had already announced in December that it would not send its athletes to the World Cup and IBU Cup competitions in Russia. Sticking to the events was causing “great damage” to the sport, Biathlon Canada said in a statement at the time.
