Outstanding: Wierer leads relay team to victory!

The biathletes continue to provide success stories: Less than 24 hours after Wierer finished in the top three in the pursuit for the fourth time in a row, the relay team achieved its sixth podium finish with South Tyrolean participation in the still young World Cup season.

Already after the first change it was clear that the “Azzurre” would have a say in the competition for victory in the first women's relay this winter. The Friulian Lisa Vittozzi had to reload once at the shooting range, but she really outgrew herself on the cross-country ski trail and handed over to Alexia Runggaldier as the leader. The 27-year-old from St. Christina held the top position until the second shooting, when she had to reload twice and was finally pushed through to eleventh place by the next change.

Wierer runs from 11th to 1st place That was apparently motivation enough for Dorothea Wierer to once again surpass herself in this first phase of the season and to downright outclass her competitors both at the shooting range and on the track. With an irresistible performance, she rolled up the field from behind and was the first to hand over to the last runner.

Federica Sanfilippo now had the task of saving the lead of around 18 seconds to the finish. The Ridnauntal woman, who had already impressed in seventh place on Saturday, showed nerves for a short time, but then caught herself in the first shooting and didn't let the competition get close. She finally crossed the finish line first, where she was greeted with cheers by her teammates. “My performance was super good” Dorothea Wierer “We are all very happy. My performance was super good,” explained Wierer in her usual relaxed manner in the winner’s interview. “After my incorrect shooting in the pursuit, this time I slowed down a bit before the first stop. That was a good decision. Things can continue like this now.”

The only ones who were able to keep up with the “Azzurre” in the end were the biathletes from Sweden, led by their final runner Hanna Öberg, who crossed the finish line about eight seconds behind. Third place went to France.

Outstanding: Wierer leads relay team to victory!

Italy's biathletes delivered a true demonstration of power and won the relay in Hochfilzen in impressive fashion. Dorothea Wierer, but also the two other South Tyroleans Alexia Runggaldier and Federica Sanfilippo offered a world-class performance.
