Surprises in the sprint – Wierer & Vittozzi struggle

Wierer ran well, but made one mistake at the shooting range - too many for a medal. It was a similar story for teammate Lisa Vittozzi. The 25-year-old from Sappada/Plodn also missed two targets – 6th place. This made the Friulian woman the best Azzurra, just ahead of Wierer in seventh place. Tiril Eckhoff experienced an individual World Cup start to forget. For the overall World Cup leaders, only four of ten targets collapsed, resulting in six penalty laps. That was only enough for 59th place in the final tally. The Norwegian's misstep has consequences, as the yellow jersey goes back to Wierer. Two surprises in the top 3 The gold medal goes to Norway. Marte Olsbu Roeiseland is the first double world champion in Antholz after she won the mixed relay on Thursday. For the Scandinavian, these are the first World Cup medals in her career.

Susan Dunkele and Lucie Charvatova provided big surprises. The 27-year-old, who was not nominated for the bronze medal win in the Czech mixed relay, was on course for silver after the last shooting and ultimately came third. The new sprint world champion is Marte Olsbu Roeiseland. The 29-year-old from Norway prevailed in bright sunshine in Antholz ahead of two surprise athletes. Dorothea Wierer & Co. had to bury their medal dreams at the shooting range.
