Vittozzi runs back onto the podium – Wierer makes a mistake

Just a few hours after Dominik Windisch made people sit up and take notice in the men's individual race , Lisa Vittozzi recorded the Italian team's next success story. The 24-year-old from Sappada/Plodn (Friuli) only had to admit defeat to Tiril Eckhoff and Marketa Davidova and achieved her fifth podium finish this winter. As before in the sprint in Antholz, she took third place.

In freezing temperatures of -10 degrees, Vittozzi kept a cool head and delivered a flawless performance at the shooting range. On the cross-country ski trail, however, she was almost ten seconds slower than Davidova, who has seemed energized since her debut victory in the Antholz Sprint. However, the whiz kid from the Czech Republic still had to cede the top position to Eckhoff, who missed once but made an irresistible start down the stretch. The Norwegian celebrated her first win of the season.

Wierer on course for a podium for a long time Dorothea Wierer's individual race, which was shortened due to the cold (12,5 kilometers instead of 15 kilometers and reduced penalty seconds), did not go according to plan at all. She was clearly on course for the podium until the third stop. But then the speedster had to point the gun twice, lost her concept and missed the target twice. At the last shooting she made another mistake. In the end she didn't get higher than 22nd place - she was only ranked worse this season in the sprint in Oberhof. Although Wierer maintained her lead in the overall World Cup, she lost the lead over her teammate and worst opponent Vittozzi.

The two other South Tyroleans, Alexia Runggaldier and Federica Sanfilippo, ranked behind Wierer in 58th and 65th place respectively.
