Vittozzi shines again – Wierer in the top 10

These are beautiful days of competition for Lisa Vittozzi. The 27-year-old celebrated another podium finish in Kontiolahti, Finland, crossing the finish line with the second best time. The resurgent athlete was only defeated by the Austrian Lisa Theresa Hauser, who won the sprint with a lead of over 17 seconds. The Swede Linn Persson came third (+24,2 seconds). After the disappointing start to the season on Wednesday, Dorothea Wierer improved to 9th place. Meanwhile, Rebecca Passler left the top athletes shaking a bit late on.

Lisa Vittozzi celebrates in Finland. After the last three weak seasons, the Azzurra has returned to the top of the world. Inspired by her 3rd place on Wednesday So she entered the cross-country ski trail on Saturday with her head held high. But this euphoria was promptly curbed when the athlete from Sappada/Plodn pulled the trigger for the first time. The 27-year-old tried to make up for this mistake in the first shooting on skis and put in an impressive performance. Flawless in the second shooting, her name appeared to be at the top of the rankings for a long time, but then it was Lisa Theresa Hauser from Austria who knocked her off her place in the sun.

Wierer is not in the best shape at the moment. As the Italian winter sports association had previously announced, Wierer was badly affected by a cold. A flawless performance when shooting was therefore required. But while the woman from Niederrasner completed the first 5 targets in her usual quick and safe manner, there was a halt in the standing shooting. The 32-year-old lost her rhythm after her third shot and missed her fourth attempt. This penalty lap was too much to be at the top, but the South Tyrolean should not be dissatisfied with 9th place.

Rebecca Passler also had reason to celebrate. Out of nowhere, she was keeping up with the best in the biathlon world. Still in 47th place on Wednesday, the South Tyrolean showed an impressive performance on Saturday, as after the second shooting the 21-year-old was even ahead of Wierer in 7th place. The young athlete lost some time in the final section, but a 17th place in the second race of the new season must feel incredibly good.

Öberg and Tandrevold cannot keep up However, Wednesday's winner, Hanna Öberg, showed a weak performance at the shooting range. The Swede missed three shots and had to give up any hope of another top placement. Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold also couldn't quite repeat her strong performance from the first competition. Although the Norwegian, like Vittozzi, only made one mistake on the shooting range, the best Norwegian's running performance - in the absence of Tiril Eckhoff and Marte Olsbu Røiseland - was not enough for a place in the top 3. In the end, she came sixth.
