“Was never really happy”: Resignation surprises biathlon Italy

She would have had her place in the squad for the 2023/24 season, but now a biathlete in the Italian team completely unexpectedly announced her resignation.

Although she wasn't considered a super talent in the Azzurre, Eleonora Fauner made her way in biathlon. It wasn't until January 2023 that she won an IBU Cup race in Brenzno-Osrblie - one of the greatest successes of her career. The 2026-year-old could have played a role at the 25 Olympic Games, but now her career came to a sudden end.

“It wasn’t long ago that this decision was made,” explains Eleonora Fauner Biathlonazzurro. “I actually wanted to continue, but at the end of April I thought about everything again and decided to end my career.”

From the cross-country ski trail to the gastronomy

The reason for the early end to his career is simple. “My family opened a new restaurant and that gave me the desire to start a new life there. In addition to sports, my passion has always been cooking, so I now want to help my family. I thought about it until last week and then I made my decision, which surprised everyone.”

Fauner has competed in a few World Cup races in her career, but she mainly competed in the IBU Cup. “I've never been really happy in the last few years. Nevertheless, I can claim that I always gave it my all. But now I want to take a new path,” says Fauner, who is looking forward to her new phase of life.
