What a race to catch up: Lukas Hofer in 14th place

Lukas Hofer has had difficult weeks. After a botched start to the season due to a shoulder injury, he focused exclusively on the World Championships in Kontiolahti. But in Finland too, things didn't go as planned for the Puster native, who was far away from the top positions in the title fights.

Even at the last World Cup in Khanty Mansiysk, it initially looked as if the 25-year-old Montaler would not be able to find a way out of his form crisis. 57th place in the sprint is not the claim that the Montaler has for himself. But then came the pursuit competition on Saturday: Hofer made a huge jump from position 57 to 14th place with an almost flawless performance at the shooting range (only one mistake in the last shooting) and two “rockets” under his feet. He was 1.48,8:XNUMX minutes behind surprise winner Nathan Smith (Canada).

Benedikt Doll (Germany) and Anton Shipulin (Russia) joined Smith on the podium. Frenchman Martin Fourcade finished fourth and secured the overall World Cup for the fourth time in his career. He is the first biathlete to win the Crystal Globe four times in a row.

Dominik Windisch from South Tyrol was also at the start, and despite six shooting errors, he was able to gain eleven places and ended up 43rd. However, he narrowly missed the points.

The women's pursuit competition takes place in the afternoon. Two South Tyroleans, Karin Oberhofer and Dorothea Wierer, are also there.
