Pyeongchang (SID) The biathletes' World Cup final will take place as planned in Tyumen, Russia (March 22-25). The International Biathlon Union (IBU) announced this on Wednesday after a board meeting on the sidelines of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. In the wake of the Russian state doping scandal, the IBU initially left open the possibility of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) hosting the event. The end of the season in the second-class IBU Cup is also scheduled to take place as planned in Uvat (March 10th to 11th) and Khanty-Mansiysk (March 14th to 17th). Last season, the IBU withdrew the World Cup from the West Siberian city of Tyumen due to the findings from the second McLaren report, which confirmed that Russia had an institutionalized doping system. The IBU had already set the World Cup calendar for the current season before the suspension of the Russian anti-doping agency RUSADA in November 2015. Since the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has expressed no concerns about holding competitions as originally planned in such cases, the races will take place in Russia in March, the IBU explained its decision. In addition, the Association of Winter Olympic Sports Federations AIOWF agreed in December to hold all competitions planned for the 2017/18 season in Russia if no new evidence emerged in the Russian doping scandal.
