Wierer privately: “I get aggressive when cleaning the house”

4 World Cup medals, 2 of which are shiny gold, plus the overall World Cup: Dorothea Wierer has really delivered this season. Actually, she should now rush from appointment to appointment, but due to the Corona crisis, the soon-to-be 30-year-old has made herself comfortable at home in Fiemme Valley (where she lives with her husband Stefano). In the interview she talked about… … the dramatic season finale in Kontiolahti: “To be honest, I thought I had already lost everything. I completely botched the sprint and therefore started the decisive chase 50 seconds behind Tiril Eckhoff. I just concentrated on myself and didn't look at the scoreboards. At the finish I didn't understand anything at first and didn't know whether it was enough. Only after I asked several people did it become clear that I had made it.”

…continue or stop: “I think the motivation is definitely still there to keep going. Physically it was a little more difficult this year because of my back problems. Whether I continue depends on how the team is put together and who the coaches are. I think if everything stays like this, I’ll definitely stick with it, otherwise I’ll have to make other decisions.”

“It feels like a movie to me.” Dorothea Wierer on the corona crisis ... the corona crisis: “Since I came home I have only seen my husband, no one else. It's brutally funny, it feels like something out of a movie to me. There's nothing you can do except wait. Our waxmen and chef are from Bergamo and Milan. They say it's extreme there, you can't imagine it. In this situation you should take a few steps back and notice the essentials. Doctors, nurses, police officers and supermarket workers in particular do great things and should be greatly appreciated.”

… your current daily routine: “I have a very relaxed daily routine. I have to stay at home and live a normal life there. That means cleaning and tidying up boxes. But I get aggressive when cleaning. The problem is that the more you clean, the more dirt you see (laughs). But I spend 90 percent of the day on the couch, watching TV and eating every hour. This is my biggest problem at the moment. The kilos are going up (laughs).”

“I enjoyed my youth and lived out my life. I wouldn’t change a thing.” Dorothea Wierer … their stormy youth: “When I was little, I always had pretty good results. But I was never the athlete who only had biathlon on my mind. My friends weren't interested in sports back then and some of them didn't even know that I did biathlon. They were more like party people, which is what I became too. In hindsight, I wouldn't change a thing. I enjoyed my youth and lived out my life. I sometimes skipped a training session, but in the race I always gave it full throttle.” … family planning: “I want to build a house soon, so I'm currently collecting a lot of ideas on the internet. How should it be? Modern traditional. So not entirely modern, but not entirely traditional either. And children? As I said, if the same people remain in my team as in the last two years, I will continue. But of course I would like to have a few children.”
