Wierer is back where she belongs

As in the past few days, the frenetic French biathlon fans came to the track in droves on Sunday, creating an incredible backdrop. They hoped for a home win until the end, but instead saw an impressive Dorothea Wierer, who led until the last shooting and ultimately finished a strong fourth. At the front, Elvira Öberg again prevailed ahead of Julia Simon and Kristina Restzova.

Right from the start, the fans experienced a real curiosity: Lisa Vittozzi, who was a strong fifth in the pursuit on Saturday, didn't hit a single target in the first prone shooting. Her prominent teammate Wierer did much better, cleared all the targets in both prone positions and established herself in the top field. Favorites like Hanna Öberg and Marte Olsbu Røiseland retired early with three and two errors respectively. It will be exciting However, due to the non-optimal starting position, which was derived from the standings in the overall World Cup, Wierer had to make up a small gap on his own, which cost a lot of money. However, that didn't bother the 31-year-old - she fired all five cartridges into the target at high speed in the first standing stage. Only Lisa Theresa Hauser from Austria, who had also made no mistakes up to this point, was able to follow the South Tyrolean.

On the following lap, the woman from Niederrasn put a small cushion between herself and the North Tyrolean and came to the final shooting in front of Martin Fourcade and Kaisa Mäkäräinen. In this, Wierer felt the tension, left a target and came out of the penalty loop in fourth place behind the suddenly leader Jessica Jislova, Elvira Öberg and the local hero Simon. While the Swede, who had already won the pursuit, ran away from everyone, Wierer clung to the heels of the competition. She overtook the Czech Jislova, but had to let the Russian Restzova go. But she was very happy with fourth place.

The biathlon aces can now recover for around three weeks before the next World Cup takes place in Oberhof (Germany) on January 6th. Then Wierer will be a force to be reckoned with again.
