Wierer misses her next medal

Until the last shooting stage, Wierer was on course for silver – even though she missed twice in the first standing stage. Then the 31-year-old started the final shooting. As the wind conditions became increasingly difficult, she left another window standing. As a result, Wierer started the final lap in fourth place. The gap to third place, which Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold held, was 3 seconds. But Wierer struggled with her strength in the final lap in extremely dull snow conditions - like many other athletes - and ended up falling back to 8th place.

The Norwegian Marte Olsbu Røiseland took the victory in a superior manner. The sprint winner only made one mistake on the shooting range and was crowned double Olympic champion within two days. Silver again went to Elvira Öberg, who, like Wierer, missed 3 times.

In the end, it wasn't Tandrevold who took bronze, but rather her friend Tiril Eckhoff. The Norwegian was still in 7th place after the last shooting and ended up securing a medal. Tandrevold, on the other hand, was completely passed over on the final lap and crossed the finish line in 14th place. Tandrevold even collapsed at the finish. Extremely difficult conditions The athletes were really put to the test on Sunday in the pursuit – at -14 degrees and increasingly heavy snowfall. Wierer ran a strong race and even had a chance of winning a medal after the last shooting. The extremely dull snow made it difficult for the South Tyrolean, who had been doing well on the cross-country ski trail until then, on the final lap. A few kilometers before the finish it quickly became clear that Wierer could no longer intervene in the medal fight.

But Wierer has already clinched her long-awaited individual medal at the Olympics in the sprint on Friday and has another chance in the mass start next Saturday. Before that, the women's relay is on the program on Wednesday. The other Azzurre, Lisa Vittozzi and Samuela Comola, finished 32nd and 37th on Sunday.
