Wierer improves in the mass start race

In the sprint on Thursday and the pursuit on Saturday, Wierer narrowly missed out on the top 15, finishing 11th and 10th respectively. Both times she was overshadowed by her teammate, who came fourth and third.

On Sunday things went better for the Niederrasner in the mass start race. After the second error-free prone stage there was even a podium finish. However, one shot in each of the two standing stages was missed and Wierer ended up in ninth place. Wierer has already won the World Cup mass start races once (Canmore 2016) and took third place once (Nove Mesto 2017).

The second South Tyrolean at the start, Federica Sanfilippo from Ridnaun, like Wierer, was good or error-free until the second shooting, but then fell back to 25th place with three shooting errors.

For Lisa Vittozzi, however, things went much worse on Sunday than on the previous days: with a total of four shooting errors or penalties, she didn't get past 29th and penultimate place.

First World Cup victory for Justine Braisaz

To the delight of the numerous spectators, French local hero Justine Braisaz secured victory in the mass start race, celebrating her very first World Cup victory. Second place went to the Belarusian Iryna Krjuko, who was the only one to make no mistakes, and third place went to the German Laura Dahlmeier.

The men's mass start race follows at 14.30 p.m. in Le Grand Bornand with the two South Tyroleans Lukas Hofer and Dominik Windisch.

Wierer improves in the mass start race

South Tyrol's best biathlete, Dorothea Wierer, achieved her best result of the three races in France at the World Cup mass start race in Le Grand Bornand. “Doro” came ninth.
