Wierer convinced, but the French cheered in Antholz

In the absence of the overall World Cup leader Marte Olsbu Røiseland and the two Öberg sisters, who are all skipping the World Cup in Antholz and preparing for the Olympic Games in Beijing (from February 5th), Justine Braisaz-Bouchet caught up in the empty Südtirol Arena her 3rd World Cup victory. The 25-year-old Frenchwoman missed just once and came out ahead of her teammate Julia Simon by 51,1 seconds.

Dorothea Wierer showed once again that the individual competition, in which a penalty minute is incurred for each shooting error, is one of her favorite races. The woman from Niederrasner initially shot clean twice, but in the second prone she missed two targets. Because Wierer missed the target again in the last shooting session, she ended up missing out on a podium finish.

Wierer was only a good 20 seconds behind third-placed Mona Brorsson from Sweden. With 5th place, the 31-year-old proved that the Olympic form is right. Wierer seems to be getting better and better, especially on the cross-country ski trails. By the way, this is their third best result of the season. Debacle for Vittozzi Lisa Vittozzi, however, experienced another debacle in the first prone stage. The 26-year-old from Sappada/Plodn missed the target 4 times before she didn't fire the last shot at all. She seemed surprised herself at the many mistakes. Such faux pas have been happening to Vittozzi too often lately. In the end she ended up in 12rd place with a total of 93 (!) errors. At least she finished the race.

The second South Tyrolean, Federica Sanfilippo, made a total of 5 errors and took 43rd place. This meant that the woman from Ridnaun was also the second best Azzurra. The Biathlon World Cup in Antholz continues on Saturday with a men's mass start (12.50 p.m.) and a women's relay (15 p.m.).

Dorothea Wierer delivered a convincing performance at the home World Cup in Antholz, but missed her second podium finish of the season. Instead, two French women were allowed to cheer. Lisa Vittozzi, on the other hand, had a pitch-black day.
