Wierer narrowly missed the podium

At the final mass start in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, Dorothea Wierer demonstrated her current outstanding form for a long time. The racer showed a strong performance, especially at the shooting range, shooting mostly quickly and safely. The racer only made a mistake in the last standing shooting and had to go into the penalty loop.

Ultimately, however, there was a problem with the cross-country ski trail. Especially at the end, the batteries were empty. After Wierer dueled with the Slovakian Anastasiya Kuzmina until after the fourth shooting and everything pointed to second place, she was intercepted in the last meters by the Slovakian Paulina Falkowa and the French Anais Chevalier and ultimately narrowly missed the podium in fourth place. Wierer will continue to keep the yellow jersey of the overall World Cup leaders.

Wierer outstanding at the shooting range From the start, Wierer was able to assert himself in the top group. The 28-year-old showed an excellent performance in the first prone shooting. Concentrated, Wierer shot quickly and without mistakes. Wierer took the lead ahead of Russia's Yekaterina Wiktorowna Jurlowa, who also made no mistakes. However, the “Azzurra” fell back a little on the cross-country ski trail; the Finnish co-favorite Kaisa Mäkäräinen, who is considered an excellent cross-country skier, had meanwhile taken the lead. In 5th place, 5,2 seconds behind, Wierer went to the shooting range for the second time. Once again the racer hit all five targets quickly and safely and took the lead. Mäkäräinen, however, had to go into the penalty loop once.

The same game again on the cross-country ski trail. Wierer fell back a little and went into the first standing shooting in 5th place, 8,3 seconds behind. Anastasiya Kuzmina was in the lead. The Slovakian had already made a mistake in the first prone shooting and this time she made no mistakes. Nevertheless, “Doro”, who once again shot flawlessly and quickly, was able to take the lead and entered the trail 4,5 seconds ahead of Kuzmina. A duel between the Slovakian and Wierer was looming. Error in the last shooting Kuzmina went into the final standing stage with a lead of 14,8 seconds. However, the Slovakian made a mistake and showed nerves. But Wierer didn't make any mistakes this time either, the second shot went wide. Both had to go into the penalty loop, which Kuzmina left just ahead of Wierer.

On the cross-country ski run, the Slovakian didn't let herself be taken away from the lead, was able to pull away a little and confidently took the win. Falkowa and Chevalier passed Wierer. The speedster still goes into the Christmas break as the overall World Cup leader. With 381 points she leads Fialkowa (345 points).

Federica Sanfilippo from Ridnaun didn't get past 26th place. Five mistakes at the shooting range were too many to have a say in the top positions. Lisa Vittozzi from Friuli had three penalties and finished the race in 27th place (+3.45,6). Dorothea Wierer narrowly missed the podium in the final sprint of the mass start in Nove Mesto on Sunday afternoon. She took fourth place in the 12,5 kilometer race.
