Wierer's successes & Öberg's tears: Five memories of the World Cup

What the speedster delivered to her front door was something she probably couldn't have imagined in her wildest dreams. Wierer brings a total of four medals from the World Championships: gold in the pursuit, gold in the individual, silver in the mass start and silver in the mixed relay. Competing in all the World Championship races (seven in eleven days) is already an incredible achievement. But then to be on the podium in every competition is incredibly good. Røiseland achieved this feat in Antholz and received praise and recognition from the entire biathlon circus. There were four different winners in the four men's individual events: Alexander Loginov, Martin Fourcade, Emilien Jacquelin and Johannes Thingnes Bø. This speaks for the high and broad level. In addition, there were always surprises, such as Austrian Dominik Landertinger's bronze medal in the individual. When she finished in 4th place at the World Championships for the fourth time on Saturday, Öberg could no longer hold back her tears in the finish area. The Swede sat in the finish area for minutes, sobbing miserably. Öberg reported on Sunday that friends and teammates had comforted her all evening and made her think differently, after she had managed to win a medal in the last World Championship race minutes earlier. There is hardly any winter sports event that can compete with Antholz. If the World Cup is a guest, then everything works perfectly - now a World Cup that is several times larger has gone off without a hitch. From the shuttle services, to the food, to the always friendly helpers, everything was great. The many fans did the rest. Antholz more than deserves the 2026 Olympic Games.
