Windisch: “I don’t lose faith in myself”

48th place in the sprint, 51st place in the pursuit and 75th place in the individual – Dominik Windisch has not yet got up to speed in the singles competitions in Antholz. One reason: his poor shooting performance. “The individual races didn’t go so well, I had problems especially with shooting,” explains Windisch. “But I don’t lose faith in myself. I've been in situations like this many times, but I've always gotten out of it. Of course you want to do good races at home, but there's no point in thinking about results now. I have to concentrate on my work.”

“It would be best if you didn’t think at all at the shooting range.” Dominik Windisch Before the relay race on Saturday and the mass start on Sunday, the 30-year-old made a few adjustments. “For my current problem, shooting, I have set myself different goals for the prone and standing positions. Shooting can be very complex, but also easy when it's running. It would be best if you didn’t think about it at the shooting range anyway,” says the Puster ski hunter.

That's why Windisch will carry out his usual rituals at the weekend races, i.e. have breakfast, go for a light jog, have lunch, drive to the stadium to test the skis and then start the competition. “This process gives me peace,” he explains. Building a house after the World Cup Windisch is not thinking about results when it comes to the mass start on Sunday - which he is tackling as defending champion. Although he also knows: “The sport of biathlon is always good for surprises. But first and foremost I want to get my shooting under control so that I can be happy with myself. It remains to be seen what will emerge.”

In any case, Windisch won't be bored after the World Cup: construction of his new home will begin in Rasen next week.

The World Championships got off to an ideal start for Dominik Windisch with silver in the mixed relay. In the individual competitions, however, the Rasner has so far had the problem. He is therefore far from desperate.
