Windisch: “Shooting with your eyes closed” – Thaler continues

The Epiphany weekend was once again a successful one for South Tyrolean winter sports enthusiasts. While the men's biathlon relay made a sensational appearance on the podium in Oberhof, an experienced skier is happy about his best World Cup placement this winter. End of career postponed: Thaler continues

It could have been the last World Cup race in Patrick Thaler's life. If things had gone the same way in Adelboden as in the previous World Cup races, then the man from Sarn would have ended his career on Sunday afternoon. Thaler didn't want to start outside the top 30 - and he doesn't have to. In the Bernese Oberland, Thaler was the best South Tyrolean in 21st place. A placement that will ensure Thaler will continue to be one of the top 30 slalom runners in the future.

Patrick Thaler: “Today I was finally able to take a step forward. That makes me positive because I love ski racing. In the last few months I have been extremely demoralized, nothing was working out. But I have learned in my career to deal with difficult situations. Now I look from race to race.”

Heavy fog and difficult conditions for the biathletes

The men's biathlon relay in Oberhof, East Germany, was a tough piece of work. But it was worth it, because hardly anyone expected second place. In the end, the biathletes agreed: the shooting range was the biggest challenge.

Dominik Windisch: “It was extremely difficult at the shooting range. The fog was so thick, it was like shooting with your eyes closed. You can see our strength in the relay. We’re a great team and it’s good when the pressure is spread across several shoulders.”

Luke Hofer: “The visibility at the shooting range was poor and I took a lot of risks there. Now we are slowly reaping the fruits of our work. The team spirit is also good. That’s important when you spend a lot of time together.”
