YOG: Braunhofer narrowly misses the Olympic medal

The man from Ridnaun placed fourth in the pursuit and missed the podium by 33 seconds. Nevertheless, a respectable performance from Braunhofer, who after his ninth place in the sprint also went into the pursuit race from this position and, thanks to a strong running performance, started a brilliant race to catch up. And who knows – if the Ridnaun native hadn't made three mistakes in the first prone shooting, he would probably have won a medal. As it was, Braunhofer had to go into the penalty loop a total of four times. The fact that he still managed to reach fourth place is a testament to his class and especially to his strength on the cross-country ski trails. Braunhofer wasn't the only athlete who struggled on the shooting range. The strong gusts of wind meant that the penalty loop had to be used unusually often. Winner Sivert Guttorm Bakken (Norway), like Braunhofer, missed four times, and his runner-up Egor Tutmin (Russia) even had to go into the penalty loop five times. The podium was completed by the Russian Said Karimulla Khalili, who was half a minute faster than Braunhofer.

Lardschneider rolls up the field from behind The performance of Irene Lardschneider from Val Gardena was also strong: she started 29th, made up place after place thanks to strong performances on the shooting range (only two mistakes) and therefore finished the race in a respectable 14th place, 2.05,8 Minutes behind winner Khrystyna Dmytrenko (Ukraine).
