Lisa Vittozzi celebrated her 25th birthday on Monday. Surprising: From the perspective of the ski hunter from Friuli, things don't look entirely rosy. The reason for this can be found last season, more precisely at the World Championships in Östersund. There, Dorothea Wierer won the gold medal in the mass start on the last day of the competition and moved level with Vittozzi, who had only finished 8th in the mass start, at the top of the overall ranking. As is well known, Doro won the big crystal ball for the first time the following week at the World Cup final in Oslo. World Cup relay as a point of contention What bothered Vittozzi immensely: Wierer did not take part in the women's relay - which took place the day before the mass start - for health reasons, but Vittozzi “had to” run and had one day less break. “We were first and second in the overall World Cup standings. But she was able to take a break for a day longer. “I couldn’t understand the decision that I had to run and I didn’t take it well,” explained the biathlete. What Vittozzi didn't mention: 2 days earlier, Wierer had competed in the single mixed relay with Lukas Hofer, while the 25-year-old was able to take a break there. “We are not friends. "Yes. But only for me. From a sporting perspective, I wouldn't have done something like that. We didn’t talk about it afterward, and I’m not interested in it either.” Are the two friends? "No. We are teammates, training partners and rivals. Me and Dorothea have 2 very different characters. And 2 different characters don't always get along well. But we respect each other.” Surprisingly clear words before the season highlight in Antholz, which are likely to make quite a few waves.
