“We carried out almost 20.000 tests last season and had a total of 18 positive cases that were immediately placed in quarantine,” said IBSF President Ivo Ferriani. When we created the Covid-19 prevention guidelines, it was very important for us to use the concept to protect not only our own athletes and officials, but also the local population.” Last season, athletes from 43 nations worldwide took part in 131 events at nine competition locations in the disciplines of bobsleigh, skeleton and para bobsleigh. “We were able to offer the athletes more than 12.000 runs. All this despite the difficult situation surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Ferriani, thanking the organizers in North America who had returned the planned World Cups – or in the case of Lake Placid, even the World Championships – in favor of the viability of the World Cup series . “This was a great gesture of solidarity in the best spirit of our sport,” said the IBSF President.
