After the short program at the European Figure Skating Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, Carolina Kostner, the most successful and longest-serving European Championship participant, is in second place. The Italian Valentina Marchei caused a surprise, finishing third behind Kosnter and beating her personal record by three points.
