Italy's figure skating elite will enchant the Meranarena next week

After 2000 and 2005, the Passer city will be the venue for the national figure skating championships for the third time next week. The best figure skaters from Italy will meet in the Meranarena from Wednesday, December 18th to Saturday, December 21st. “The national title fights are the most important competition at the national level before the Winter Games in Sochi and represent the last opportunity for the athletes to jump on the Olympic bandwagon,” said the President of the Italian Ice Sports Association Giancarlo Bolognini at the press conference in Bolzano.

A total of 239 athletes have registered to take part, including the 2012 world champion and five-time European champion Carolina Kostner, who wants to defend her title from last year. Spectators can also look forward to the European Championship bronze medalists in ice dancing Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte, as well as the European Championship bronze medal winners in pair skating Stefania Berton and Ondrej Hotarek.

Meanwhile, six local athletes will be competing in the junior category, namely Lisa Barbierio (Ice Club Meran), Doris Pircher and Francesca Polita (Bozen On Ice), Celine Brunner from Meran (has been training in Milan since this season), Jana Savina (Ice Skating Bozen) and Marco Zendron (Ice Skating Bozen). Maurizio Zandron (Ice Skating Bozen) is starting in the men's category, while Carol Bressanutti from Bolzano has not yet announced her participation.

Final gala as the final highlight The national title fights open on Wednesday afternoon with individual junior competitions. The individual competitions for women and men, however, are scheduled for Friday (short program) and Saturday (free skate). The crowning conclusion of the Italian Championships is the final gala, an exhibition that will take place on Saturday from 21 p.m.
