Dream debut: Sarina Joos is in the final

The World Championships in Montreal are currently the grand finale of this year's figure skating season. Yesterday, Wednesday, the women's short program took place, in which Sarina Joos delivered a strong performance.

Sarina Joos, who has been registered for the Ice Skating Bozen club since this season, celebrated her debut in the women's competition. The Swiss, who is competing for Italy, was quick to impress. The 17-year-old landed in 59,39th place with 19 points and qualified for the decisive free skate on Friday.

European champion Loena Hendrickx took the lead with a personal best of 76,98 points, although the Belgian is suffering from hip inflammation and is not in top form. The American Isabeau Levito came second ahead of Lee Haein from South Korea.

World champion Kaori Sakamoto had to settle for fourth place after a wobble in the triple Lutz. But everything is still possible for the Japanese in the free skate on Friday, because the gap to Hendrickx is less than four points.

Azzurri also impress in pair skating

Sara Conti and Niccolo Maccii also showed off their skills in the couples' short program in the afternoon. The two took third place with 72,88 points. The Canadians Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps provided the top score, with 77,48 points, well ahead of the Japanese defending champions Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara (73,53).
