Shaky World Cup debut: Daniel Grassl has room for improvement

Daniel Grassl is some way away from his desired top ten place and the associated qualification for the 2022 Olympics. However, he can still be expected to make a big leap forward in the free skate on Saturday (11.30 a.m.).

His debut at a World Cup had its share of light and shadows on Thursday afternoon. Grassl started in the impressive Ericsson Globe in Stockholm to the music of the British rock band Muse with a flawless quadruple Lutz, but then briefly touched the ice during the subsequent triple Axel. As a result, it was good, but not entirely free of slight wobbles. The result was a score of 79,43 points and 15th place. Hanyu's long-term competitor Nathan Chen from the USA only ended up in third place with 98,85 points. This means that it will be difficult for him to defend his title.
