The Ritten becomes a speed skating mecca for ten days

Over the past two decades, Ritten has built up its status as a speed skating stronghold with several major events: the ice ring has hosted the all-around European Championships for men and women twice, and World Cup races for women and men have been hosted in Klobenstein several times. The Junior World Championships were also held on the South Tyrolean plateau in 2002.

In February 2013, the world's best young speed skaters will come to South Tyrol again to host the World Cup finals and the subsequent World All-Around Championships. “Ritten has earned a high reputation in the international ice sports scene. The two upcoming top events prove this once again. They are among the most important events in the speed skating season,” said Giancarlo Bolognini, President of the Italian Ice Sports Federation (FISG), appreciatively.

128 athletes from 20 countries have registered for the title fights so far. A truly mammoth program awaits the organizers around the 400 meter long artificial ice ring in Klobenstein. “Preparations have been going on for over a year, now we still have to make the final arrangements. But I am sure that together with the Rittner Sports Club we will put together a great event,” explains OC boss Peter Treibenreif. Ritten's mayor Paul Lintner agrees: “We will certainly celebrate a true festival of sport. The fantastic backdrop of the Ritten high plateau offers the optimal setting for such an event.”

Since the conversion to the extended curve radius of 26 m for the inside track and 30 m for the outside track, the Rittner Eisring has been considered the fastest open-air ice rink in the world. We want to maintain this status in the future. “A closed ice ring is out of the question for us for financial and strategic reasons. We want to retain our special features,” says Lintner.

This year too, the organizers spared no effort to put together an attractive supporting program. Music and entertainment are intended to attract an audience across generations and round off the event
