Berlin (SID) Speed skater Claudia Pechstein has assured that she is not involved in the doping scandal involving Erfurt doctor Mark S. “To avoid any speculation, I repeat at this point: I have never doped in my entire career, never taken illegal substances or used forbidden methods,” said the five-time Olympic champion on her Facebook page. According to the ARD doping editorial team, a member of the Olympic team from the German speed skating community (DESG) belongs to the Erfurt doctor's network. So far, according to information from the public prosecutor's office, nine of 21 doping athletes are known to have carried out blood doping with the help of Mark S. since 2011. Pechstein explained that she was following the case “full of anger and disappointment.” If a German speed skater was actually involved, the Berliner demanded that he reveal himself immediately. "As long as that doesn't happen, a general suspicion lies over German speed skating. This situation is unbearable for all clean athletes," explained Germany's record-setting Winter Olympian. Pechstein was banned for two years in 2009 because of elevated blood counts. The 47-year-old has always protested her innocence and also went to state courts in the fight against the world association ISU and the International Court of Arbitration for Sport CAS.
