Big Air World Cup visits Modena

A 46 meter high and 130 meter long ramp was set up at the exhibition center in Modena especially for the Big Air World Cup. Starting Saturday, a total of 140 athletes from all over the world will compete on the largest ramp ever built in Italy.

The snowboarders start off, nine “Azzurri” are at the start: Nicola Dioli, Loris Framarin, Elia Fuser, Marco Kerschhackl, Emiliano Lauzi, Nicola Liviero, Alberto Maffei, Emil Zulian and Margherita Meneghetti. Maffei finished in the top 10 in Milan and Mönchengladbach last year, Zulian came fourth in Quebec.

From a South Tyrolean perspective, Sunday will be particularly exciting: Big Air World Cup winner Silvia Bertagna from Val Gardena is one of the favorites. With Rene Monteleone (St. Ulrich), a second South Tyrolean is there; it is the second World Cup appearance for the native of Val Gardena. On his debut in September in Cardrona (NZL), the 18-year-old finished 32nd.

Also at the start are Igor Lastei from the Fassa Valley, Kilian Morone (Trento) and Elisa Nakab (Livigno). After tearing his cruciate ligament at the beginning of October, Ralph Welponer from Val Gardena will be out for the entire 2018/19 season.
