Ralph Welponer: Season over for South Tyrol's freestyle ace

After an initial examination in Bormio, a magnetic resonance scan on Monday brought the diagnosis: the anterior cruciate ligament in the left knee was torn.

The freestyler from Ortisei will be operated on at the Ortho-Plus Clinic in Bolzano on Wednesday and the season will most likely be over. “After such a serious injury, I will probably have to take a break for at least six months,” said Welponer, who has never had to deal with serious injuries before.

In the first competition of the season at the beginning of September, the man from Val Gardena achieved 17th place at the BigAir event in New Zealand.
