Italy is even the lone leader among the European associations. With 17 medals, the Azzurri mined significantly less precious metal than leaders Norway (37), but that doesn't change their rewards. According to reports, a bronze medal will be rewarded with a bonus of 60.000 euros, a silver medal with 90.000 euros. The South Tyrolean medal winners Omar Visintin, Nadia Delago, Dorothea Wierer and Dominik Filehner can also expect a windfall.

If an athlete achieves a big success at the Olympics, he or she will receive a whopping 180.000 euros in bonuses. In Beijing, only short tracker Arianna Fontana and the curling duo Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner were able to enjoy this. In fact, there are no explicitly mentioned Olympic bonuses for the Norwegians. Johannes Thingnes Bø (four gold, one bronze) and Marte Olsbu Røiseland (three gold, two bronze) are left empty-handed as the most successful athletes in their country.
