The “Gsieser” takes place at the weekend

In a recent meeting with the mayor of Casies, Paul Schwingshackl, the organizers decided to produce enough artificial snow to make the marathon distance possible. This means that this year there will also be the traditional program with races over 30 and 42 km in classic style on Saturday and the skating races over the same distances the following day.

The Gsiesertal Run therefore remains an important event on the international cross-country skiing calendar. In contrast to many other fun runs, which have already been canceled or shortened this year due to the mild winter. “We have achieved a small miracle,” says OK President Walter Felderer, not without pride. "I would therefore like to sincerely thank the entire staff and volunteers who have been working for weeks. I can assure you that the cross-country ski trail will be in perfect condition on both days."

It starts on Saturday, February 14th with the classic competitions at 10 a.m. in St. Martin in Casies. The skating races also start at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Enrollments are in full swing. In the past few days, numerous marathon specialists have confirmed their attendance, such as Bruno Debertolis from Trentino or the leader in the FIS Marathon Cup Peter Novak (Czech Republic). Some winners from previous editions such as Simone Paredi, Sergio Bonaldi, Thomas Steurer, Barbara Felderer, Jessica Müller and Renate Forstner are also at the start. Stefania Zanon from Fiemme Valley is also there for the women.

In the 42 km race in the free technique, Olympic champion Giorgio Di Centa completed a final test before the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun. Together with Di Centa, the entire gold relay team from the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin will be at the start, including Cristian Zorzi, Pietro Piller-Cottrer and Fulvio Valbusa.

The Gsiesertal-Lauf-Lauf is part of the Gran Fondo Master Tour, the Italian Ranking and, above all, the Euroloppet, an association of important cross-country skiing marathons in Europe. RaiSport2 will follow the cross-country skiers with cameras on both race days.

Since 1984, the Gsiesertal run has not been canceled once. On Saturday and Sunday everything is ready for the 32nd edition this year - despite little natural snow.
