Toblach also wants to jump on the Olympic bandwagon

If Italy and Milan and Cortina actually win the contract for the 2019 Winter Games in June 2026, the Hochpustertalers would like to host the cross-country skiing competitions in their home Nordic Arena. This is definitely tried and tested due to the annual World Cup races and the classic Toblach-Cortina. “Our facility and cross-country trails would be suitable for the Olympic races,” says Gerti Taschler with certainty. He has been leading the OK team at the Tour de Ski in Toblach since this season.

Eugenio Rizzo, the slope manager, agreed with him at a press conference on Tuesday: “We have placed our interest with the Olympic applicants. We may not have the best cards right now, but with a little support we could take this complicated path.”

In fact, there are other possible venues for the cross-country skiing races, which - as of today - are a step ahead of Dobbiaco. In the first application file from Milan/Cortina, Santa Caterina Valfurva is planned to host the cross-country ski races, and Tesero in Fiemme Valley has also expressed strong interest.

In the South Tyrolean branch of the national Olympic Committee, only Antholz, as a biathlon location, has so far taken concrete steps towards hosting Olympic competitions. So far only vague plans have been heard from Dobbiaco. This now needs to be pushed forward in order to actually make a last-minute candidacy a reality. Because time is of the essence: all Olympic locations for the Italian candidacy must be definitely fixed by the beginning of the new year at the latest.
