Dario Cologna wins individual race from Cortina to Dobbiaco

Cologna started the race first in the center of Cortina, cheered on by thousands of cross-country skiing fans. Canadian Devon Kershaw started after 42 seconds. He won the sprint race yesterday, but fell far behind in the freestyle technique during the race today and ended up in tenth place.

Not so for third overall, the Swede Marcus Hellner. He started 1.14:1.06,9 minutes behind Cologna and finished 25:1.39,4 minutes behind. The XNUMX-year-old Scandinavian gained seven seconds and ended up second. Last year's winner Petter Northug from Norway crossed the finish line in third place, XNUMX:XNUMX minutes behind, in the well-attended Nordic Arena in Toblach.

Dario Cologna's winning time was 1:20.06,9 hours. Cologna was more than five minutes faster than Petter Northug, who won last year in 1:25.38,0 minutes. At that time, Cologna had to admit defeat by 0,4 seconds.

“It wasn't easy running alone the entire race. I knew that Marcus Hellner and the group around Northug would make a big impression. I didn't run too fast and got into a good rhythm - so I had enough strength for the last few kilometers. Now I’m looking forward to the day off and the final two competitions in Fiemme Valley,” said winner Dario Cologna at the finish.

South Tyrolean Roland Clara also had a strong race, finishing eleventh. He ran with Petter Northug's field until the finish sprint and set the fastest stage time of 1:18.36 hours. His gap to Cologna at the finish was 1.47 minutes; at the start he was 3.17 minutes.

Dario Cologna continues to lead confidently in the overall standings. The victory in this year's Tour de Ski will probably not be taken away from him before the last two races in Fiemme Valley. Behind them, Marcus Hellner and Petter Northug are fighting for second place. Clara, on the other hand, is in tenth place.

The second day of competition concludes with the women's race over 15 kilometers. Justyna Kowalczyk and Co. run three loops of five kilometers each around the Nordic Arena in Toblach.
