David Hofer and Giulia Stürz Italian champions in skiathlon

In the men's race (10 km classic + 10 km freestyle), 31-year-old David Hofer from St. Cristina gave a strong sign of life and took the title. Hofer never made it into the top 20 in the World Cup this year and at the World Cup in Lahti he only came 32nd in the skiathlon and only 15rd in the 43 km freestyle race. “Today I felt good right from the start to be in shape. “I don’t know why, but everything went according to plan right from the start and I still had a lot of reserves at the finish,” said Hofer happily. He decided the race in the last 200 meters when he pulled away from his competitors and won with a lead of 2,9 seconds over Sebastiano Pellegrin (U23 Italian champion) and 4,4 seconds over Florian Kostner. Like Hofer, Kostner is also from Val Gardena and runs for the Carabinieri sports group. Fourth place went to Francesco De Fabiani, who was involved in a crash in the closing stages with Federico Pellegrino, sixth behind Fabio Clementi. Pusterer Dietmar Nöckler also fell 1,5 km from the finish and smashed both sticks. He was completely out of the race and in the end he had to settle for 11th place. The young Bozen native Stefan Zelger, the big surprise in the relay on Sunday, took 17th place.

Giulia Stürz defeats De Martin Topranin and Debertolis in the sprint In the women's skiathlon (5 km in classic technique + 5 km in freestyle) the title went to Giulia Stürz, who already won bronze in this discipline at the U23 World Championships in February. The 21-year-old from Trentino, with South Tyrolean roots (her father comes from Aldein), won the sprint just ahead of Virginia De Martin Topranin and Ilaria Debertolis. Sara Pellegrini came fourth, already 41,6 seconds behind, while Lucia Scardoni, who was still running with the leading trio at the change, fell back in the freestyle and only came fifth. The race was disappointing for Debora Agreiter from Val Badia, sixth, almost a minute behind the winner. Tomorrow the program for the title fights in Antholz includes the last day of rest, and on Thursday the 30 km for women and 50 km for men, classic, with mass start, will take place. One can be excited about the duel between Giorgio Di Centa and Dietmar Nöckler.

David Hofer and Giulia Stürz Italian champions in skiathlon

The Italian cross-country skiing championship in skiathlon took place in Antholz on Tuesday. In the men's category, David Hofer from Val Gardena was crowned the new Italian champion, ahead of Sebastiano Pellegrin and his compatriot Florian Kostner. Giulia Stürz from Trento won the women's event.
