Immediately after the turn of the year, it's that time again when the international cross-country skiing circus comes to Alta Pusteria for the eighth time. Stars of the scene such as Federico Pellegrino, Martin Johnsrud Sundby, Marit Björgen, Justyna Kowalczyk and local hero Dietmar Nöckler will reveal their skills as part of the Tour de Ski stage on January 6th in the Nordic Arena. The program includes freestyle competitions over 10 and 5 kilometers. “The Tour de Ski is a reward for the commitment of the Dobbiaco organizers and volunteers. At the same time, this event boosts our tourism,” emphasized Mayor Guido Bocher at the press conference.

But that's not all, because just eight days after the Tour de Ski, another highlight follows in the Toblach cross-country skiing center: on January 14th and 15th, the sprint and team sprint winners will be determined as part of the cross-country skiing World Cup. “These races are particularly spectacular and attractive – also because Federico Pellegrino, an Italian, is one of the hot contenders for victory. We are expecting a large audience here,” says Herbert Santer, the OC boss in Toblach.

On the three racing days in January, there will once again be plenty of celebrities mingling with the fans along the route, including Hermann Ambach, the President of the State Winter Sports Association. For him, Toblach is a matter close to his heart: “These races and this facility are worth their weight in gold for our youth. The basis for successful cross-country skiing and biathlon is laid here.” Regional Sports Councilor Marta Stocker is also one of the regular guests. “This event has enormous sporting, economic and cultural significance,” said Stocker at the presentation in Bolzano. She also alludes to the supporting program in the Nordic Arena. In addition to musical and culinary offerings, a “Scandinavian village” with many surprises will attract spectators to Dobbiaco during the Tour de Ski. We have spared no effort this winter to put together a great event. In January everything will be in place for a sporting spectacle with international flair,” concluded Santer.
